Prepare for take-off

Had an interesting week photographing the Iron Maiden Plane! Its approaching the final stages of the major refit and everything is looking great. It is staggering how big a Boeing 757 is when you are right up close! Even more staggering is the tail fin with Eddie 30 feet high! I can’t wait for this tour to start. Did a few shots with Bruce as he checked out the plane, I think he is happy with progress. Will get some more pix up soon.

I am sorting my kit out for the tour and have just taken delivery of some incredible goodies from the brilliant people at Lexar. Firewire stackable card readers and some 300x cards. The card readers daisy chain together so I can download 3 cards worth of data through the firewire 800 port all at once. I am so used to transferring my data a card at a time and it takes forever, so this will really make all the difference. The cards are very fast. Lexar Rock! I Have a Nikon D3 ready to pick-up with the new 14-24mm f2.8 – just trying to find time to pick things up. For any techno geeks out there I will do a full run down of the kit I am using on the Maiden tour soon.

…and finally don’t have your groceries delivered by yours truly!

‘Band of the Year’

‘Job for a Cowboy’

The first shot was taken 10 minutes from Downtown Phoenix, the rest were done about an hour away where it is safe to shoot cacti (with a gun!) and generally act like a nutcase. It really is the wild west! As you leave the inter-state it feels like the law is also left well behind. Great bunch of guys with a nice collection of firearms. Arizona light is nearly as good as Denver. The sunset was just stunning that evening as we desperately tried to get to the last location. We just made it and I was really happy with all the shots from this session – bit disappointed that the spread in Hammer had sand texture overlayed on the original images. Looked very naff and didn’t reflect the hard work that was put in. The band were great company both nights!
