Big awards on Thursday. Â I have the shot below up for an award in the Location Flash Category. Â One winner from all the categories gets the prestigious title of Professional Photographer of the year. Â I lucked in last year and won the Portfolio title. Â The shot below is of William D Drake of the Cardiacs. Â I planned the shot in advance. Â He is a totally eccentric character which I was determined to get across in the portrait. Â I stuck a Lumedyne head inside my flash brolly with the battery pack hidden from view and told William to ignore everyone walking across the bridge and just think about the shot. Â It was rammed with people and the sky was turning darker by the minute so we shot fast. Â William is simply jumping up in the air as I count him in to the shot. 3-2-1 Do it again. Â We must have done it 15 times until we got a shot that worked. Â The background I underexposed by about a stop and a half to esentuate the greyness of London and make St Pauls Cathedral stand out.
Awards ceremony is in Cheltenham on Thursday night. Â Fingers crossed!
